I, who majored in mathematics at university and studied an MA in ceramics, create ceramic goods that are designed by reinterpreting the principles of mathematics. The whole making process done by my hand. Therefore, they are the only one that exists in the world, rather than industrial products being mass-produced. Motivated by the Korean traditional “Wanggol” box, this series shows the distinctive features of traditional boxes of being neat and elegant, which come from their rounded shapes. The interior of the box is distinctively designed to be a pentagon and to have individual partitions that fit like jigsaw puzzles, allowing one to sort and store different-sized accessories. Moreover, on the cover of the box the construction process of the pentagon is drawn by pencil, or carved by knife and then, hand-painted in a concise, minimalistic style, so the rhythmical sense is expressed. The exposed pencil lines and continuous lines add vitality to a static, white colored ceramic. This series was also primarily aimed at female customers, but in fact it can be widely used by men and women of all ages too. E.g. to keep stationaries, men’s accessories, or jigsaw puzzles. |
